Citizen Volunteer of the Year

The delivery of park and recreation services has always relied on volunteers who give countless hours to their community, whether coaching in a local youth league, building and maintaining trials, serving on the park and recreation advisory board, or all of the above.  MRPA understands the reliance our professional members have on the volunteers in their communities.  Through this award we hope to make that understanding a little more tangible.

Past recipients of this award have had the following qualities:

  • Contributes to the well-being of recreation within the State of Maine

  • A community volunteer who supports the development and creation of recreation programs, facilities or services

  • Is not a paid employee of a department

  • Length of involvement at the local, multi-town, or state level

  • Diversity of involvement, contributions, and achievements

  • Letters of support from the community

  • Civic involvement

  • Moral character
