MRPA is the Maine state sponsor for the Aquafina/Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition

(To download this overview information as a pdf, click here)

Your Maine community can host a FREE program for youngsters ages 7 – 14. Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run is a 1-day event in April or early May that is designed to encourage youth participation in baseball/softball & allow youngsters to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities. Local winners can move on to the Maine Sectional Competitions with the chance to advance to the Boston Red Sox Team Championship event at Fenway Park in late June. The top contestants nationwide compete at the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week.

2012 Maine Pitch, Hit & Run Program Deadlines:

Wednesday, May 16: All local competitions must be completed and results submitted online at www.mlb.com/phradmin. YOUR LOCAL COMPETITION MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE SECTIONAL.

Sunday, May 20: Tentative date for both the Northern & Southern Maine Sectional Competitions. Times and locations to be announced at a later date.

Late June: Team Championship held at Fenway Park. Maine “All-Around Champions” in the Sectional Competitions will be directly notified by PHR Headquarters as to their advancement status following the Sectionals. They will provide the specific date and time of the Team Championship if that participant’s score is eligible to advance. Please register for your local Pitch, Hit & Run Program & Free Administrative Kit online at
www.mlb.com/phr.

Pitch, Hit and Run is a Win - Win for your community!

*It costs your towns nothing. All materials are provided by Major League Baseball and shipped to you well in advance of your competition.

*It’s an excellent opportunity for groups to fundraise by selling concessions at the event.

*It's a great way to get kids involved in baseball and a good opportunity to build camaraderie in your community.

In 2011, two Maine youth achieved scores high enough to advance to the Team Championship Competition at Fenway Park in June. They both placed 2nd in their age group.  Congratulations to Emma Hixon of Westmanland, ME who placed 2nd in the girls ages 7/8 Division and Maty Moore of Waldoboro, ME who placed 2nd in the boys ages 11/12 Division!

Northern Maine sectional boys and girls results

On May 22nd, sectional finals were held in southern and northern Maine.  The Southern Maine Sectional was at the Ball Park in Old Orchard Beach. We had a total of 68 participants compete on a very chilly spring afternoon. Big thanks go out to the Old Orchard Beach Recreation Department and the Ball Park Staff for helping with the event and allowing us to use such a great facility.  The first two photos below are of Southern Maine Sectional participants.

The Northern Maine Sectional was hosted by the Mars Hill Recreation Department and held at Central Aroostook High School in Mars Hill.  Photos of the top placing boys and girls are below the Southern Maine Sectional photos.

On June 12, 2010, Brett Collamore of Waldoboro competed in the Team Championship at Fenway Park against state champions from Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts.  Brett came in first place in the 9-10 age bracket!  Unfortunately his score was not high enough to qualify for the national championship but Brett has made Maine proud!  Below are three photos of Brett at the event.
