The Maine Recreation & Park Association believes strongly in the efforts of its members to enhance their professional development;  to this end, MRPA will, through the  Professional Development Grants Program, offer assistance to its members in the furtherance of such efforts.

Development Grants

PROFESSIONAL

 

GRANT AMOUNTS      

Up to $500 will be awarded biannually

 

GRANT DEADLINES    

March 1 and September 1 of each year

 

GRANT CRITERIA

Applicants must be a current member of MRPA for a minimum of three years

 

First time applicants will have priority

 

Applicants may not reapply for the same training opportunity at a later date

 

Recipients must wait three years to reapply

 

Applicants are limited to a maximum of two grants

 

Grants may be used to assist with expenses to attend an NRPA national or regional training opportunity or other regional, national or international training opportunities of a similar scope

 

Eligible expenses are limited to registration, travel and lodging only

 

Full funding by the applicant’s employer is not available

 

Applicants must make a personal financial contribution which may include, in part, funds raised from other sources

 

GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS

 

Applicants must submit a letter to the MRPA Scholarship Committee

 

All letters must include the following:

The name of the training opportunity

Why you wish to attend

How will you benefit professionally

A copy of the training session brochure with sessions you wish to attend clearly noted

Provide a financial synopsis of the anticipated expenses and sources of funding for the training opportunity

 

Applicants must agree to report on their training session by one of two methods:

Submission of an article to the MRPA Newsletter, or

Leading a session at a statewide workshop or conference on the training topic or the applicants experience

For workshops, conferences and or training opportunities not sponsored by NRPA, MRPA or a related professional association the applicant must demonstrate how the training session will be relevant to the requirements

 

All proposals must be forwarded to the MRPA Scholarship Committee prior to March 1 or prior to September 1 for consideration.

First time applicants will have priority

 

Recipients may reapply annually, however applicants may not reapply for the same training opportunity 

 

Applicants are limited to a maximum of two grants

 

Grants may be used to assist with expenses to attend a national, regional or state training opportunity  

 

Eligible expenses are limited to registration, travel and lodging only

 

Applicants must make a personal financial contribution of at least 10% of the requested amount which may include, in part, funds raised from other sources

 

GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS

 

Applicants must submit a letter to the MRPA Scholarship Committee

 

All letters must include the following:

The name of the training opportunity

Why you wish to attend

How will you benefit professionally

A copy of the training session brochure with sessions you wish to attend clearly noted

By submitting an article to the MRPA newsletter summarizing their experience and how they benefited professionally from the experience
