Anthony Johnson
MRPA Treasurer and Director of Cape Elizabeth Community Services Russell Packett (left) presented Anthony Johnson with the Dr. Bill Eckart Young Professional Award
In presenting the award to Anthony, his longtime supervisor Russell Packet noted: “Anthony has worked for RSU5 Recreation and Community Education (Freeport) for the past nine years. During that time he has grown to a seasoned recreation professional. He has the unique ability to be both a “Rock Star” to the kids of Freeport while also having earned the respect of their parents.
During our 8 years working together Anthony continually demonstrated the ability to learn and grow while creating new and fun programs for the youth of the community. He took on challenges with enthusiasm and a determination that allowed the department to successfully transform itself in order to better meet the needs of the community.
In addition to his work in Freeport, Anthony has also found the time to get involved with MRPA. Over the past few years he has volunteered his time on the Bill Bonnyman Golf Tournament, worked on the Spring Conference Committee, and is currently the Association’s Pitch, HIt & Run Coordinator.
If that isn’t enough to warrant this award, in the past year Anthony took on a challenge that epitomizes what Bill Eckart himself would deem an event worthy enough to be an easy slam dunk. Last June Anthony sat for, and passed, the CPRP exam. At a time when some of us are wondering about the value of being certified, it is inspiring to see a young professional who believes such a certification is a valuable way to demonstrate his commitment and dedication as a Recreation Professional. It is my honor to have nominated, then presented, the 2013 William Eckart Young Professional Award to Anthony Johnson.”
